Colt Single Action Army Revolver

This is a First Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver in .45 Colt with a standard 4-3/4" Barrel. Desirable antique serial number is in the 174,000 range. Made in 1897. This is a good Colt that is all original and correct. Matching numbers on the frame, trigger guard, and backstrap with sub-assembly numbers on the loading gate matching to the inside of the frame. The front of frame has the transverse release for the cylinder pin which is correct above serials in the 144,000 range. Left side of barrel marked "45 COLT." with two-line Hartford Barrel Address. Left side of frame has rampant Colt logo in a circle with 1871, '72, and '75 patent dates. Checkered hard rubber grips have the simple rampant Colt at the top of each grip panel...also correct for 1897 production. Other features include the later style ejector with the original bronze spring still intact as well as the original hammer with the antique checkering pattern with the long border.

Overall Condition grades to NRA Antique Very Good. This was once probably a high condition Single Action but it appears to have been wrapped in a piece of canvas or burlap many years ago which wicked moisture on some on some of the high spots. Someone lightly cleaned the metal to bright but there are still traces of original blue under the trigger guard under the barrel and up against the frame. There is also a little blue on the trigger and on a few of the screws. Internally, there is quite a bit of original blue remaining under the ejector housing and nice case colors on the inside of the frame. All of the springs appear to be original to the gun and have never been replaced. There is even original blue on both the front and rear faces of the cylinder so this is not your average well-used worn-out Colt SAA. The action is in excellent shape. The bore however is only fair...the rifling is there but it shows some scattered pits from poor storage. Original grips are in Fine Condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Screws are all Very Good Plus to Excellent Overall. A Nice solid Colt SAA that would display nicely.
