Springfield US Model 1879 Trapdoor Rifle

This is a standard Springfield Trapdoor with a neat serial number...172000 on the dot!  This is a nice example of a pure 1879 Model Springfield that has never been upgraded to Model 1884 standards. Caliber 45-70 with 33" barrel, original sights complete with ramrod and sling swivels.  The stock cartouche is dated 1881 with the circle "P" cartouche located below the triggerguard on the wood.  Overall, conditon is NRA Antique Fine with most of the original barrel blue which is beginning to tone to brown patina from natural aging.  The action is a mixture of light patina and silvery remnants of faded case colors with just a hint of color showing near the hammer.  Internally, the inside of the breech bolt retains nearly all of its original case colors. Barrel bands retain 75% of their original blue.  Stock is in Very Good condition....there are a few dings on the left side of the stock...otherwise, this would grade up to at least Fine+ or Excellent.  Original ladder rear sight is marked with the letter "R" for rifle and has never been upgraded to the Model 1884. It also has the early style smooth trigger face.  Action works nicely and bore is nearly mint...bright and shiny with strong rifling and no pitting. A very nice example of an earlier non-upgraded model Springfield trapdoor!
