Smith and Wesson 1-1/2 Single Action Revolver w/ Inscription

This is a strong example of the S&W .32 caliber Model 1-1/2 Single Action Revolver. Standard 3-1/2" barrel with five-shot cylinder, nickel finish, and early style checkered hard rubber grips. The rear strap of the handle is inscribed "JAS H. SCHOONMAKER". With the middle initial present in the inscription, there is an excellent chance the original owner of this pistol could be positively identified and further researched. The .32 caliber Model 1-1/2 SA was produced from 1878-1892 with a total production of just over 97,000. The serial number is in the 28,000 range. It was likely mf'd during the early 1880's but an exact date can be obtained by ordering a factory research letter from Smith and Wesson. Barrel has numerous patent dates ranging from 1865-1877. See photo.

Overall, condition grades NRA Antique Excellent Plus with 98% bright original nickel plating remaining. Hammer shows brilliant original case colors with strong original blue on the trigger, ejector star, and barrel catch. The screws and pins are Excellent. 100% all matching numbers throughout including grips, cylinder, barrel, barrel latch, and frame. Grips are Excellent with sharp checkering, strong early style S&W monograms, and no chips, cracks, or repairs. Bore is Good+ to Very Good. Barrel latch is still tight. Ejector works properly. Excellent mechanics.
