Standard Sporting Rifle in 30 WCF. 26" octagon barrel, full magazine, and crescent buttplate. Original sights include the smokeless Express w/platinum lined folding leaves. SN# is in the 52,000 range. Antique, 1896 production. Nice early gun with early type 2 line barrel address, 3 line tang marks including John Browning's 1894 patent date. Hammer also has the early type knurling with decorative dipped border.
Overall condition grades to NRA Antique VG++ to Fine. Barrel and magazine tube retain 97% strong original blue. Frame is a mixed bag as it looks like something spilled on it. Really a shame because this rifle shows very little use. Left side of the frame has a very strong 75% original blue with a couple of splotches. Right side is about 10% blue with some light corrosion across the side. Loading port still shows 30% fire blue. Hammer has 85% good original case colors while the lever has around 35-40% case colors. The bolt has a strong 90% blue and even the upper tang shows about 80% original blue. The wood is in excellent condition with perfect fit to the metal. No chips, cracks, or repairs. Really nice with much of the original varnish present. Nice crisp mechanics with a super Minty bore! If you can handle a little bit of rash on the side of the frame, this is a lot a great antique Winchester for the money!
